About Municipality

Arcot Municipality was established in 1959 as a Third Grade Municipality. It was subsequently upgraded to a Second Grade Municipality in 1973 and later elevated to a First Grade Municipality in July 1998.

The First Grade Commissioner serves as the Executive Authority of the municipal administration. The municipality functions under the administrative supervision of the Regional Director of Municipal Administration, Vellore, and the District Collector of Ranipet District, with overall control vested in the Commissioner of Municipal Administration, who serves as the administrative head of the urban local body.

Arcot Town covers an area of 7.49 square kilometers and had a population of 49,953 according to the 2001 Census.
