LOCATION OF THE CITY
Sivagangai Municipality is located at a distance of 35 km from Tirupathur and 20 km from the Manamadurai Highway at an altitude of +102.41 above sea level. City location N9 ° 43 ‘to 10 ° 2’ longitude and E 77 ° 47 ‘to 78 ° 49’ longitude. The maximum temperature is 39 C and the minimum temperature is 28. C. The average annual rainfall is 336.2 mm.
Sivagangai Municipality is located at an area of 6.97 sq m with a population of 40403 (2011 census). It is a First Class Municipality and it is the district headquarters. The Municipality was established as a Third Class Municipality on 1.4.1965 and was upgraded to a first class municipality from 22.5.1998 as per G.O.MS No. 85 MA & WS dated 22.5.1998.
TRANSPORT LINKS
The five major roads passing through Sivagangai are Madurai, Tirupathur, Manamadurai, Ilayangudi and Tondi Road. All of these roads have heavy traffic that leads to congestion in the city.
TEMPERATURE
The maximum temperature in summer is 39 C and in winter it is 28 C. The minimum temperature varies from 24.5 C to 26.0 C. The seasonal weather conditions are mild and the weather is equally exciting.
RAINFALL
The city receives heavy rainfall during the northeast monsoon. Annual normal rainfall is 336.2 mm. The average annual rainfall in the city is 770 mm.

The main group of soils found in the town is the red type.
