Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 
Rameswaram town, which is one of the important Heritage town in India, is located in Ramanathapuram District , at a distance of 176 km East of Madurai and 260kms south East of Trichy town. The Rameswaram Municipality is a 2nd Grade Municipality from 09.08.2010 with a population of 44856 as per 2011 census. The area of the town is 53.00 sq.km comprising of 21 wards. The famous Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple located in the heart of the town with world famous third corridor. Rameswaram Municipality has been announced as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) City by Government of India
