About Municipality
Ramanathapuram Municipality was constituted as a third grade municipality in the year 1959 vide G.O. MS No. 722 RDLD Department dated 1.4.1959. Ramanathapuram Municipality was upgraded as Second Grade municipality vide G.O. M.S. No. 533 RDLA dt. 23.3.1975 and upgraded as Ist grade Municipality with effect from 17.4.1984.
Now, it is upgraded as Special Grade Municipality with effect from 6.3.2019 vide G.O.M.S.No.51 MA&WS Dept. dt.6.3.2019.
The area of the town is 6.33 Sq.km. The strength of the council is 33.
