It is an important Municipal town in the North- Western part of Erode District and it is belongs to Sathyamangalam Taluk and Bhavanisagar Panchayat Union. It is situated between 11’28” latitude and 77’26” longitude and at 213M above M.S.L. It is located at a distance of 40 km from Coimbatore. The town which is a Grade II. Extends over an area of 4.54 sq km. It is well connected by three main roads (major district roads) passing through the center of the town. One connecting Coimbatore and Sathyamangalam and another connecting Puliampatty and Mettupalayam, Puliampatty and Tiruppur, by crossing N.H.209 (National Highways). The municipality was constituted for this town on G.O.No: 217 dt.4.11.1922 as Village Panchayat effect from 20.11.1922, has Elevated to I Grade Town Panchayat on G.O.No.:24802 dt. 7.7.1949, has Elevated to Selection Grade Town Panchayat on G.O.No.:55331/69 dt. 9.6.1969 and IIIrd Grade Municipality on G.O.No: 301 dt. 24.08.2004 with effect from dt. 07.10.2004. and as per G.O.No:154 dt.9.8.2010 has been upgraded as IInd Grade Municipality
