Town Profile :
Located in the Kanyakumari district of the state, Nagercoil is one of the important town of Tamil Nadu. The town is situated at a distance of 20 kms to the North-West of Kanyakumari and at the intersection 77 o 29′ East Longitude and 8 o 11′ North latitude.
River Palayaru, originating from the Western ghat and flowing through the city in the North-east portion and the Western Ghats on the north west, Arabian sea at the west side are the major geographical features of this region.
Spread over an area of 24.247 sq. kms. Nagrcoil is the first largest town in the district of Kanyakumari. With a population of over 2.08 lakhs, the economy of the town revolves around the agriculutral activities. The pleasant climate prevailing in the region has been one of the various factors contributing to the growth of the cultivation.
The Nagaraja temple is situated here. This town, named after the temple dedicated to Nagaraja, the King of Snakes (Serpent God) is the head quarters of Kanyakumari District. The Nagaraja is installed on the ground where it was origninally found and the sand is scooped out and given as ‘Prasadam’ to the devotees. The entrance of the temple is reminiscent of Chinese architecture of a Buddhist Vihar.

The town has been well connected with road network system. Round the clock Rail and bus facilities are available and there is direct rail linkage to Delhi. Large numbers of Hospitals with sophisticated equipments are located in the town.
Transport :
Government Transport Corporations play number of buses. Private transports and mini bus services are also operated day and night. Two ‘B’ class Bus stands with all its facilities is housed in the heart of the town. There is a good transport network system in the town. One railway station with all facilities also available in the town.
