History and Growth of the Town

Hosur was found by King Rama Natha during the year 1290. He also belonged to Hoysala Dynasty. The rule of Hoysala Dynasty came to an end after Pallavaraya III died during the war with Maaravarman Sundarapandyan.

The Chandira Choodeswarar Temple located on the hill top, was built by the Hoysala Dynasty King, Thirupuvanamalla Barvatharaja Anthiyazhvar, in the year 1260 AD. The temple was renovated by Azhakiya Perumal Aathimoolam.

During British period, Salem collector Walton Illiat Lockardt, made Hosur the head quarters for Salem district.

During 1980s industrialization began with the help of SIPCOT and Hosur became a Industrial Town. After that the basic development started taking place.
