History and Growth of the Town
Gudalur Town Panchayat was constituted as Village Panchayat in 1949 and upgrade Second Grade Town Panchayat as per proceeding No.83/A/64-65 dated. 15.04.1966 of the Director of Rural Development, Chennai and upgraded in to 1970 as Ist Grade Town Panchayat as per Order No.205575/70 dt.15.12.1970 and upgraded into Selection Grade Town Panchayat in 1982 as per Order No.2774/82/K5 dt.04.02.1982 of Director of Rural Development, Chennai and functioning as such till date. The extent of the Town Panchayat is 29.98Sq.K.M. The population of the Town Panchayat is 21966 as per 2001 census, consisting of Men 11280 and Women 10686. As per Government Order No. 67, Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply dated 11.09.2021, Gudalur-Coimbatore District Town Panchayat upgraded to Municipality.
