UNDER GROUND SEWERAGE SCHEME
Dindigul City Municipal Corporation extents upto 14.01 sq.km. The population of the town as per 2011 census is 207225.The total number of wards are 48.The underground sewerage scheme was sanctioned to Dindigul City Municipal Corporation, an estimate cost of Rs.23.76 crore and administrative sanction has been accorded vide G.O.Ms.No.400 (D) MA&WS (MA3) dated 23.09.2005. The revised administrative sanction has been accorded for Rs.46.15crore vide G.O. (D) No.554 (D) MA&WS (MA2) dated 30.12.2009. Under Phase I, 22 wards were taken and the project is divided into 3 Packages. All Packages were completed and the trial run is in progress in Package II.

In Package I (collection system) the proposed quantity of 24.40 K.M of sewer line, 995 numbers of Man holes, 3296 numbers of HSC, 9.565 K.M. of Pumping main, 2 numbers of pumping station and 1 number of Lift station have been completed So far, 3311 households were connected.
In Package II (collection system), the proposed quantity is 73.09 km sewer line, 2719 manholes, and 10700 house service connections. But as per the site condition the actual quantity is 71.179km sewer line, 8257 manholes and 8190 house service connections. All works are completed. So far, 9249connections are given.
In Package III, the sewage treatment plant work is taken and completed at Pallapatti Village 3 K.M. away from the Town. The capacity of the STP is 13.65 MLD. The activated sludge process technology is adopted to treat the sewage. The operation & maintenance is in progress. The proposal has submitted for disposing the treated sewage water in Mungil pond @ Pallapatti Village 2 KM away from the Sewage Treatment Plant. The 1/3rd of treated water is given to TALCO as per G.O.(M.S.) No.64.
At present 62800 populations are benefited. After completion of the scheme 69980 population would be benefited in 22 wards.
