With the employment of 146 sanitary workers, the sanitation of this town is maintained with high standard.

Night Soil Disposal

Generally, the disposal of Night Soil is carried out through septic tanks, and public convenience facilities. Nearly 78% of the total population covered through septic tanks, 5.26 % of the population covered through low cost sanitation system, and only 3.78% of the population covered through Public convenience facilities is show in the Table.

Moreover, 13% of the population are not covered by any of the systems of night soil disposal, is shown in Tables. The non-availability of good sanitation facilities leaves the choice of households opting for open defecation in the town.

Coonoor local body has already initiated an action to eradicate the manual night soil collection through provision of Low Cost Sanitation System with the assistance of HUDCO. So far the scheme has identified 600 beneficiaries to be covered under various income categories, and nearly 505 properly owners benefitted through this Scheme till today.
