History

Bhavani Municipality was constituted as III Grade Municipality during the year 1978 on 01.04.1978 and it was upgraded as II Grade Municipality vide the G.O.MS.No.1073, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, Dt: 19.12.1990. This has been declared as a tourist center by the government of India.
Bhavani is a Compact medium sized town in Erode District of Tamil Nadu, is located at the confluence of the river Bhavani and Cauvery. The famous Sangameswarar Temple is located at the confluence of river Cauvery and Bhavani which draws a large number of Pilgrims throughout the year. The town is well connected by roads to Erode, Sathyamangalam, Mettur, Anthiyur and Salem. Bhavani Municipality was constituted during the year 1978 and upgraded into second grade Municipality during the year 1990. This has been declared as a tourist center by the government of India.

The jurisdiction of the Municipality extends over an area of 2.17 Sq. Km. Developed areas constitute 80% of this and the remaining areas are agricultural and vacant lands. The growth of the town is being regulated by the zoning system under the master plan. The general topolography of the town is flat, slightly sloping towards the confluence of the rivers.
