Government have also issued orders to issue Citizen charter to the people with a clear basic policy.

The Arakkonam municipal council is very proud to present this Citizen charter to the people of this town.

6.SWARNA JAYANTHI SAHARI ROZGHAR YOJANA

Providing self employment opportunity to the people living below poverty line.

Providing financial assistance (Loans and subsidiary through the Bank) to the women self-help group below poverty line.

Imparting training to those who are selected and interested in self employment to

commence the trade.

The people below poverty line shall submit applications to the Municipality at information center and the applications shall be scrutinized with reference to the entries of their names in the list of below poverty line and the eligible persons shall be recommend to the banks for financial assistance.

7. NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME :

* Immunization to the children aged 0 to 5 and pregnant women is administrated at Municipal office and Municipal noon meal center on every Wednesday.

8. FUNERAL RIOTS GRANT :

* Financial assistance of Rs.500/- is extended to the families belong to SC/ St for funeral riots incase of the death of any family member. The grant will be paid by the Municipality from the Tamil Nadu Government grant within 15 days.

The applicants should apply to the Municipality with relevant documents at the information center.

Solid Waste Management :

Arakkonam town generates 30 MT of Solid Waste per day. Out of this nearly, 28 MT of the solid waste being collected, transported and disposed daily, which works to per capita generation of 400 gms./day. The efficiency of the present mechanism can able to collect 80% of the total wastes generated in the town. The Urban Local Body also carry out weekly mass waste cleaning programme to clear the left out wastes by utilizing extra vehicles trips in the town. The total garbage collected constitutes 48% of the domestic wastes, 42% commercial wastes and 10% of construction wastes. The details of solid waste composition and collection efficiency are shown in the Table.

(c) Solid Waste Disposal

At present, there is no full-fledged compost yard facility is available for solid waste dumping and the waste is generally disposed in the near kavanoor road Rajive Gandhi nagar  area, 3 KM away from the town centre, which occupy an area of        2.74 acres. The existing compost yard is not provided with adequate infrastructure facilities such as road, Weigh Bridge, Waste Segregation platform, mechanical sewer and security room.

(e) The present mechanism of solid waste management exhibits that the waste is segregated into degradable (other than plastics) and non-degradable (plastics) waste. Due to constraints involved in getting approval from the Pollution Control Board there is no production of manure is take place at the compost yard site. Therefore, the Urban Local Body initiating action to privatize the Solid Waste Collection System and composting activities in the town, the details are shown in Table.

(f) Segregation of Waste at Source: Each and every household person have been instructed by the Municipality maintain separate baskets for segregation of waste as degradable and non-degradable. The residents are using separate baskets for segregating the waste and keep the baskets in front of their houses for easy handling of the conservancy worker.

(g) Creating awareness among the public

To create awareness among the public and to realize the importance of segregation of garbage, handbills have been distributed to each and every houses/households and propaganda on the zero garbage system have also made through the Health Division

(h) Manufacture of Compost/Manure

At present dumping site is not fully improved to carry out any composting activities. Therefore the municipal authorities are trying to solve the problem.

(i) Initiating an action to privatize the Solid Waste management System

The Municipality is proposed to have a tie up with an interested private entrepreneur to maintain the Solid Waste Mechanism Proposed compost yard

Alternative site at Silverpet (10acres) owned land 17kms from the town have been located and necessary action of shifting the present compost yard to this site with all infrastructures at the above site. Also providing transport facilities, etc., are now under consideration.
